Common problem

Air Conditioner Not Cooling in Tea Tree Gully

The unit hums along all afternoon and the room never drops. That is the most common cooling fault we get called to in Tea Tree Gully, and it usually has a simple cause. Our Tea Tree Gully team finds it, quotes it and fixes it, with the price agreed before anyone opens a toolbox.

Why Your Aircon Stops Cooling

Weak cooling rarely arrives as one dramatic failure. It builds.

Filters clog through a dry Adelaide summer, coils collect dust off the gully, and refrigerant slowly escapes through a joint that has worked loose on an ageing unit. Each one leaves the system running but the air barely cooler than the room.

What You Can Check Yourself

A few checks cost nothing and fix the easy cases. Work through these before you ring:

The filter

A grey, matted filter chokes airflow. Slide it out and hold it up to the light.

The mode and temperature

Controllers get bumped. Confirm it is on cooling, not fan or heat.

The outdoor unit

Clear leaves and dust away from the coil so it can dump heat.

The registers

On a ducted system, make sure the zone and outlets are actually open.

If the filter was filthy and the room cools afterwards, you are done. If the unit still runs flat, the fault is inside the refrigerant circuit or the compressor, and that is licensed work. Refrigerant handling is not a DIY job, and our air conditioning repairs team carries the gear to test it properly.

Common Causes of Weak Cooling, Cheapest First

Most no-cool calls come down to one of a short list of faults:

Blocked filter or dirty coil

The cheapest fix there is, and often a clean restores full airflow the same day.

Low refrigerant

A leak is the usual culprit, and a top-up without fixing the leak just sets up the same call next summer.

Failed capacitor or compressor fault

The outdoor unit runs but cannot build pressure, so the air comes out barely cool.

Duct problems

On older ducted systems in the 1960s to 1980s brick homes here, crushed or disconnected duct runs in the roof space dump cold air where nobody sits.

That last one catches plenty of owners out. Houses along Elizabeth Street and the post-war streets went up through the sixties, seventies and eighties, and a ducted system on its second or third decade often has ducts sagging in the ceiling.

The unit is fine. The cold air never reaches the room.

When to Call for Air Conditioning Repairs

Ring us when the checks come up empty or the fault keeps returning. Call straight away if you notice ice on the pipes, a burning smell or the breaker tripping, because running a system in that state risks the compressor.

We hold 24/7 emergency availability, and urgent faults get a Within-the-Hour Response where availability allows.

How We Fix a System That Will Not Cool

The visit starts with a proper diagnosis, not a guess. We measure airflow, check pressures and test the electricals, then tell you plainly what failed and what it costs to put right.

The price comes before the work.

Fixed Upfront Pricing means the quote lands before any work starts, with no hourly rates and no bill shock.

Honest advice on repair versus replace.

If the numbers point at a replacement rather than another repair, we say so. A unit past ten years that needs refrigerant every summer rarely justifies a third visit, and our air conditioning replacement page covers the honest version of that decision.

Every repair we do carries the Lifetime Labour Warranty. If a fault comes back through workmanship, we return and fix it at no cost.

Why Tea Tree Gully Homes Lose Cooling in Summer

Heatwave load is the real test here. When consecutive days push past 40, a system already running on a choked filter or low charge gives up first, because it has no headroom left.

The brick wall problem

The single-storey brick-veneer homes that fill the gully hold heat in their walls through the evening. A struggling unit never gets the overnight recovery it needs, so it starts each hot day already behind.

A system serviced before summer starts has the reserve to ride those runs out.

Questions

Aircon Not Cooling FAQs

Why is my aircon running but the room stays hot?

Nine times out of ten it is a choked filter, dirty coils or low refrigerant from a leak. We check all three on site, tell you which one it is, and quote the fix before any work starts.

Can I keep running the unit until you arrive?

Better not to. A system short on refrigerant or starved of airflow works harder the longer it runs, which can damage the compressor and turn a small repair into a replacement conversation.

How fast can you get here during a heatwave?

We hold 24/7 emergency availability and urgent calls get a Within-the-Hour Response where availability allows. Heatwave days book out quickly, so ring early and we will give you an honest arrival window.

Should I repair the unit or replace it?

If the unit is past ten years old, needs refrigerant every summer or the repair quote climbs near half the price of a new system, replacement usually costs less over a few seasons. We give you both figures.
